Remote MIB-item look-up service - Network Operations and Management Symposium, 2002. NOMS 2002. 2002 IEEE/IFIP

چکیده
Despite some deficiencies, the Internet management framework is widely deployed and thousands of Management Information Base (MIB) modules have been defined thus far. These modules are used by implementors of agent software, as well as by managers and management applications, to understand the syntax and semantics of the management information that may be exchanged. At the manager’s side, MIB modules are usually stored in separate files, which are maintained by the human manager and read by the management application. Since maintenance of this file repository can be cumbersome, management applications are often confronted with incomplete and outdated information. To solve this “meta-management” problem, this paper discusses the design of a remote look-up service for MIB-item definitions. Such a service facilitates the retrieval of missing MIB module definitions, as well as definitions of individual MIB-items. Initially the service may be provided by a single server, but other servers can be added at later stages to improve performance and prevent copyright problems. It is envisaged that vendors of network equipment will also install servers, to distribute their vendor specific MIBs. The paper describes how the service, which is provided on a best effort basis, can be accessed by managers I management applications, and how servers inform each other about the MIB modules they support.

A nationwide internet telephony network is described that uses H.323 gateways distributed around the country to provide customers with local telephone access to application services hosted at a central data center. A key technology that enables deployment of the network is automated configuration management. The configuration management system includes a detailed object-oriented data model of t...
متن کاملTransactional workflow for telecommunication service management
As workflow management systems become more complex and critical to an organisation’s performance, there is an opportunity for a new generation of workflow management products. These products could greatly increase the scope of workflow management systems in target application areas. One of the key extensions to workflow management systems will be the use of transactional semantics to increase r...

The IETF has developed several specifications for policy-based configuration management. In addition, an infrastructure for distributed management by delegation has been specified. This paper combines key concepts developed in these two efforts and proposes a policy-based configuration management architecture built upon the distributed management infrastructure. Two prototype implementations fo...

This memo defines a portion of the Management Information Base (MIB) for use with network management protocols in TCP/IP-based internets. In particular, it defines objects for managing remote network monitoring (RMON) devices for use on high speed networks. This document contains a MIB Module that defines these new objects and also contains definitions of some updated objects from the RMON-MIB ...
